BOOKIE ALLOWED AS RESIDENTS PROTEST

A bookmaker has been given the go-ahead to open shop in Homerton, despite hundreds of residents signing a petition against the move.

Pridmore bookmakers were given planning permission to open their new branch at the Chatsworth Road shopping centre by the council last week. The site is close to a school and a nursery.

Angry residents sent 41 letters of objection and 507 petition letters to the council, claiming the new business will attract the wrong sort of people to the area.

The move will bring the number of bookies operating in the neighbourhood to three.
