Hackney Schools and the Black Child

Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, is to host a conference focusing on the achievements of black children in education.

‘Hackney Schools and the Black Child’ will be a practical conference aimed primarily at black parents, and will include workshops dealing with issues including being an effective parent, supporting very bright black children, and counteracting the negative impact of media, culture and stereotyping.

Other speakers will include Alan Wood, Chief Executive of the Learning Trust, which manages education in Hackney, as well as head teachers and other guests from the worlds of education and the media. The conference will be opened by Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney this Saturday at Ocean on Mare Street, and starts at 9.30.
