COUNCIL IN RECYCLING MOOOOOVE

HACKNEY council is spending tens of thousands of pounds on recycling bins decorated to look like cows.

The council has ordered 200 of the Cowbins (left), each with a standard price of £340, which would bring the cost of the whole order to £68,000.

A successful pilot scheme of the Cowbins in Lewisham saw residents recycling 61 per cent more waste in just three months.

Julian Gaylor, a spokesman for the bin manufacturer, said: “If you capture people’s imagination and make recycling attractive and fun, they are far more likely to participate.”

To get kids recycling, there are also smaller ‘Calfbins’ (below) available for primary schools.
